Dating on a Budget – How to Woo Your Date Without Breaking the Bank

One of the hardest things about saving money is trying to budget during a holiday, especially one that gives you the opportunity to dote on someone you love. So how do you make birthdays, date nights, and even Valentine’s Day special without draining your bank account? We’ve compiled a few inexpensive date ideas that will impress your date without breaking the bank.

Have a Picnic

Eating outdoors can make for one of the most romantic dates. Pack a picnic or stop for food along the way. Lay down a blanket or find a park bench to sit on. Find a romantic area to watch the sunset together. As cheesy as it sounds, it’ll be more memorable and beautiful than anything you could buy.

Stay Home

If you and your significant other live together, stay home and cook for each other. Find a new recipe and work together to create a meal from scratch. Not your thing? Order a pizza and watch a favorite movie together, or find an obscure title neither of you has seen on Netflix. Play board games or card games together. New experiences in the comfort of your home will make the two of you feel closer than ever.

Go for a Walk

Visit a new area of town, go on a hike in a new park or along the beach, or take a bike ride. If you and your significant other are feeling a bit more active, find a local YMCA (or another community center) and play a game of one-on-one, racquetball, or get in a good workout together. You’d be surprised how well you can bond when you’re both working up a sweat!

Visit an Art Walk or Street Festival

The South Florida area is filled with art walks. Perhaps the most notable is the Coral Gables Gallery Night on the first Friday of each month. The Wynwood for the Art Walk takes place on the second Saturday of each month, and the Bird Road Art Walk on the third Saturday. Check out one or check out them all – you’ll find something new each time!.

Feeling a little more adventurous? Bring your date to Big Night in Little Haiti every third Friday of the month for live music, food, art, crafts, and more. Save the last Friday of the month for Viernes Culturales (Cultural Fridays).

Visit a Museum

Many Miami museums have special prices on certain days. (You can see which days at which museums here.) Even if you and your partner know nothing about art or history, ask each other’s opinions about paintings or learn something new together.

Be Spontaneous

Perhaps the most important part of dating on a budget is staying open-minded and not being afraid to try new things. Don’t tie yourself down to the same humdrum dinner and a movie routine. It’s tired and it’s more expensive than anything on this list. If you’re looking for something last-minute, check out miamionthecheap.com for free or cheap things to do this (and any) weekend.

When it comes right down to it, it isn’t about how much you spend on one another, it’s about the quality of time you spend together.
